[Solid Gold are as good as anything you’ll hear in a while. They make downbeat dance music, sad synth-pop, melancholy club tracks, which might sound like a contradiction in terms but not to those of you who have, over the past 25 years, appreciated artists from Pet Shop Boys to Junior Boys. They come from Minneapolis, the home of Prince, but you won’t get any upbeat freak-funk here. This is music for the mourning after the failed night out before.]
yea so i haven’t uploaded any audio links for a while even though I’ve acquired quite a few albums lately.
A new find that I am really digging is a group called Solid Gold from Minneapolis. I can’t even recall how I found them. Probably a lead-in from another lead-in. Or maybe a casual mention from a facebook friend?
I do admit I still feel shame and guilt for not being more on top of music (like knowing of groups before the general populace catch on) but honestly, who do I think I am. A dj? Though it’s true I’ve secretly always wanted to be one. I even had a pair of techniques and mixer for some years before being completely truthful with myself and selling them to a dad of a 9 year old kid who wanted to nurture his son’s budding interest in music.
These days in the era of laptop and bedroom djs, I’d be a bonafied old schooler who could actually beat match had I stuck with it. I’d have earned me some stripes! And Seargant DJ would be my name. Oh don’t me wrong, by no means am I a purist but it is an idea filled with romantic notions.
